Yet according to recent forensic pharmaceutical analyses published in Molecules (2022), a significant portion of these products secretly conceal prescription-grade phosphodiesterase type-5 (PDE-5) inhibitors—specifically sildenafil (Viagra), tadalafil (Cialis), and vardenafil (Levitra). In a laboratory screening of 158 over-the-counter supplements, 13.9% tested positive for undeclared drugs, with daily exposure rates reaching as high as 87.8 milligrams.
For young, healthy individuals, unmetered synthetic drugs can cause distressing headaches, tachycardia, and blurred vision. For men with underlying cardiovascular conditions, however, the consequences can be catastrophic or fatal.
The Medical Mechanism: How PDE-5 Inhibitors Work
